What is SHARE?

The Scientific Hub for Accessible Research and Exploration (SHARE) is a platform that enables researchers to share their data, data analysis, and code in a transparent and reproducible way. SHARE creates web-based data exploration hubs that allow for data reuse using the raw files, processed data, or data analysis performed by the initial researcher. SHARE enables researchers with or without coding experience the ability to interact and utilize data from research projects. Furthermore, the exploration hubs produced from SHARE can complement current supplemental data published with journal articles. In some cases, the exploration hub can replace supplemental data creating a more comprehensive companion to the current publishing model.

Our Story

SHARE was envisioned in June 2024 after developing a web-based data exploration hub that uses a unique URL to access aspects of research output stored in GitHub, Figshare, and Quarto, and Shiny. Creating a website where individuals go to access source code, processed data, transparent and reproducible data analysis, and shiny apps allows for non-coding and coding biologists to peruse the project results intuitively and interact with any aspect of the research analysis. The goals of these exploration hubs are to:

  • - Strengthen dialogue between non-computational and computational biologists
  • - Deepen literacy of analytical choices by non-computational biologists
  • - Improve collaboration through asynchronous research updates
  • - Increase transparency and reproducibility in research
  • - Remove the gatekeeping of data and code by authors
  • - Allow for other researchers to reinterpret and reuse data analysis without needing to code

Our goal is to bring SHARE to the masses for wide adpotion and reenvision what is means to disseminate research output. Complete transparency and publishing all data analysis will not only foster collaboration but will enable the scientific community to make discoveries that have been hampered by our current mode of operation. At SHARE we believe that open science means sharing data and data analysis and that everyone, regardless of computational proficiency should have equal access to data reuse.

Our Vision

We envision SHARE will enable all computational biologists, data scientists, and anyone that codes to perform scientific research to learn about open science, practice FAIR data analysis, and create reproducible data analysis that is open access at its core.
